2011 Annual Meeting

On April 11, the League held its Annual Meeting for 2011 at Bethelehem Lutheran Church. John Arrowsmith, Director of the Los Alamos County Utilities Department was the guest speaker on the subject of the new Smart Grid in Los Alamos. In addition, a business meeting was held.

2011 Legislative Preview

January 13, 7-9 p.m., Fuller Lodge LWVLA's annual overview of the upcoming session of the New Mexico Legislature. Speakers were state Representative Jeannette Wallace, state Senator Carlos Cisneros, state Representative Brian Egolf (Santa Fe) and LWVNM Action Committee chair Dick Mason.

Charter Review Forum

On December 2, LWVLA sponsored a forum to discuss the structure of local government. Among the issues discussed were:

whether Council election should be non-partisan

whether the County Council should be districted

whether Los Alamos should have an elected mayor

The Charter Review Committee welcomes additional input. Look for their meeting on these and other topics at the Los Alamos County Web Site.

Fall 2010 Candidate Forums

The League of Women Voters of Los Alamos, together with the AAUW, sponsored candidate forums on Tuesday, October 5 and Thursday, October 7. The first featured candidates for the third Congressional District, District 43 of the state House of Representatives, and magistrate judge. The second was for candidates for the Los Alamos County Council.
